The Speleo Digest, an annual project of the National Speleological Society, is more than just a compilation of articles from grotto and regional publications. It is a reflection of the time, energy, and enthusiasm that cavers put into caves and caving and portrays the NSS as an organization made up of a diverse group of individuals pursuing a multitude of activities related to a common interest.

The reader is cautioned that the material contained therein has not been reviewed by any expert or technical review committee. Material reprinted in a Speleo Digest is not necessarily correct or safe and in no way represents the opinion or recommendations of the National Speleological Society.

The first volume of the Speleo Digest was published in 1956. The NSS has been responsible for all volumes since 1967. With the advent of email and desktop publishing, however, many grotto and regional publications moved to digital formats, and interest in compiling digests waned, despite being made easier by computing advances. The last Speleo Digest was published in 2007 for the year 2003. The Board of Governors finally disbanded the project in 2014.

Most of the recent digests are now available (to current NSS members) in the Publications Archive as pdf files. Additional volumes will continue to be added as digital versions can be produced.
