CONTENT AND CIRCULATION
NSS NEWS is the official monthly magazine of the National
Speleological Society. It is mailed free to every qualified NSS member the last week of the month preceding issue date. Most people receive their issues by the end of the first week of the month, but due to the uncertainties of second-class mailing, some individuals may not get their issues until the middle of the month.
December issues can arrive even later.
Within its pages members can keep track of the numerous regional meetings held by caver groups around the country and be kept informed of Society business and affairs. In addition there are product reviews, articles of national interest concerning safety and equipment, conservation, regional news, and exploration.
Average monthly circulation is 8,000 issues.

CONTRACT AND COPY REGULATIONS
1. No conditions, printed or otherwise, appearing on the contract order
or copy instructions which conflict with the publisher's policies will be
binding on the publisher.
2. Contracts or orders must be bona fide and must specify a definite schedule
of insertions, issues and sizes of space.
3. Rates and conditions are subject to change without notice. Advertisements
are accepted and published by the publisher on the representation that the
advertiser and/or advertising agency are properly authorized to publish the entire contents and subject matter thereof. When advertisements containing
the names, pictures and/or testimonials of living persons are submitted for publication, the order or request for publication thereof shall be deemed
to be a representation by the advertiser and/or advertising agency that they have obtained the written consent of the use in the advertisement of the name, picture and/or testimonial of any living person which is contained therein. It is understood that the advertiser and/or agency will indemnify and save the publisher harmless from and against any loss, expense or other liability including attorney's fees resulting from any claims or suits for libel, violation of right of privacy, plagiarism, copyright or trademark
infringement and any other claims or suits that may arise out of the publication of such advertisement.
4. All copy, text and illustrations are subject to the publisher's approval
before execution of the order; and the right is reserved to reject or exclude
copy which is unethical, misleading, extravagant, challenging, questionable
in character, in bad taste, detrimental to public health or interest, otherwise
inappropriate or incompatible with the character of the publication, or that does not meet with the approval of the Federal Trade Commission, whether or not the same has already been accepted and/or published. In the event of such cancellation or rejection by the publisher, the advertising already
run shall be paid or billed at the rate provided for in the order.
5. When change of copy is not received by the closing date, copy run in previous issues will be inserted.
6. The publisher assumes no liability if for any reason it becomes necessary
to omit an advertisement.
7. No space cancellations will be accepted after closing dates. None may
be considered executed unless acknowledged by the publisher. All covers and special units are accepted only on a noncancellable basis.
8. No contract will be accepted for a period longer than one year. Advance
orders will be billed at the rates prevailing when the advertisement is
published.
9. An order may be cancelled by the publisher if the advertiser or agent
fails to pay accounts when due, and the difference between rates billed and rates earned on space used shall become due and payable immediately.
10. Orders that earn frequency discounts may be cancelled by the advertiser
or agency upon written notice 30 days prior to closing date of the issue
and payment of account becomes due in full, including the difference between
rates billed and rates earned on the space used.
11. Advertising agencies assume and agree to pay the charges for advertising
published at their direction. Upon the agency's written request the publisher
will bill the advertiser direct, provided the agency guarantees payment.
Publisher reserves the right to hold advertiser and/or advertising agency
jointly and severally liable for such monies as are due and payable to the
publisher; including any finance charges, reasonable collection costs and/or attorney expenses incurred to collect past due accounts.
12. Orders specifying positions are accepted subject to the right of the
publisher to determine actual positions.
13. The word "advertisement" will be placed with copy which, in
the publisher's opinion, resembles editorial matter.
14. The publisher reserves the right to decline or reject any advertisement
for any reason at any time without liability even though previously acknowledged and accepted.
15. All orders are accepted subject to the acts of God, fire, strikes, accidents or other occurrences beyond publisher's control which prevent the publisher from partially or completely producing, publishing or distributing its publication.
16. Publisher will not accept advertising that does not meet government regulations.
