Albert and Ethel Ogden Nature PreserveSecret Cave is a gem of a cave. Its short length makes it ideal for an evening trip after work. But don't be fooled, it's easy to lose hours in the short 967' long cave looking at massive, beautiful formations. Located in Cookeville, Tennessee, Secret is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful caves in the state. Secret Cave was purchased by Tennessee Tech and MTSU geology professor, Albert E. Ogden in 1988, not long after Upper Cumberland Grotto members first took him to the cave. In 2018 the NSS Board of Governors approved funds to purchase the cave, which made it open and available for visitation by the 2019 NSS Convention in Cookeville. Secret Cave is accessed by a 34' rappel into the main cave room. The cave is almost entirely covered in massive beautiful formations. A 60' pit is in the back of Secret Cave which leads to another small formation filled room.
The Albert and Ethel Ogden Preserve Management Committee is now co-chaired by Chuck Sutherland, Anne Elmore, and Megan Atkinson. For more information on Secret Cave or the Albert and Ethel Ogden Nature Preserve, please email the co-chairs at:
