The Iowa Grotto

INTERCOM

The INTERCOM is the Iowa Grotto’s main periodical and has been in publication since 1965. The INTERCOM is currently published on a bimonthly basis (6 times a year). Membership in the Iowa Grotto automatically includes a subscription to the INTERCOM. Subscriptions to the INTERCOM are also available to non-members at the reduced rate of $13.00 per year.

Each issue of the INTERCOM contains minutes from the most recent Iowa Grotto business meetings, as well as caving trip reports from Iowa Grotto members, recently produced cave maps, and various photographs. The INTERCOM also occasionally contains features such as updates on current research or special projects, or even some humor, such as the “Dear Most Competent Caver” advice column.

In addition to subscriptions to new issues of the INTERCOM, the Iowa Grotto occasionally makes republished back issues available. These issues are not included in a regular membership or subscription and must be purchased separately.

Iowa Cave Map Books

The first volume of the Iowa Cave Map Book was published by the Iowa Grotto in 1992. Since that time, volumes II, III, IV and V have also been published. Each book contains a collection of several hundred maps of various Iowa Caves as well as an appendix of standard cave map symbols.

Iowa Cave Map Books can be purchased from the Iowa Grotto for $25.00 apiece. A bundle of four Cave Map Books can be purchased at a discounted rate of $80.00 dollars.
