about
the section
The
NSS Section of Geology and Geography is open to anyone with
a strong interest in cave and karst geosciences such as geology, geomorphology,
geography, minearology or hydrology. NSS Membership is highly
encouraged, but is not required.
The purpose of the section is to maintain communication among
cave geo-scientists both within and without the NSS. The Section
newsletter, GE02,
is one method of accomplishing this task. The Section has standing
committees for such purposes as maintaining a list of
the
longest and deepest caves. Ad-hoc committees are formed
to take care of matters arising within the Section or assigned
to it by the Officers or Board of Governors.
The Section is also the point of contact with the American
Geological Institute with which the NSS is affiliated.
The Section holds its business meeting at the annual NSS
Convention and arranges the Geology Sessions at the
Convention. During each NSS Convention, the Section also sponsors
a workshop or symposium on some special topic that has broad
general interest for cavers as well as for scientists.
