A Theoretical Model of Radio-Location
Steven M. Shope

Abstract

The use of cave radios for both communications and surveying is becoming increasing popular. This paper provides an exact analytical solution for the magnetic fields created by an underground loop antenna. Although the formulation is not unique, the objective of this paper is to present complex theoretical equations in a form readily useable by cave researchers. Common uses include the design of radio-location surveys, cave communications systems, rescue operations, and cave data telemetry links.
