Spent Carbide - A Poison to Cave Fauna

Abstract

Conservationists have urged that spent carbide be removed from caves, because it may act as a poison to cave animals. No experimental evidence exists to support this idea. This paper demonstrates that spent carbide is indeed a poison to larvae of a cave beetle.
