Electrical Equipment for the Transmission of Climatological and Hydrological Data from Vass Imre Cave, Hungary
Miklos Gadoros

Abstract

Obtaining regular measurements of cave temperatures, flow rates and water compositions is essential to cave climatological studies, but is made difficult by the nature of caves and the distrubances introduced by observers. A system is described for the remote measurement of cave conditions using a system related to a telephone exchange. Specialized instrumentation has been developed for measuring, remotely, the temperature, the flow rate of water from stalactites and the composition of this water, at a number of points in a research cave in Hungary. A multiplexing station selection and transmitting network permits measuring all of these quantities from a Research Station on the surface as electrical signals. The system promises to be of great value in collecting consistent climatological records.
