Caverns of St. Tomas
Antonio Nunez Jimenez and Kenneth A Symington

Abstract

Of all the 1000 or more caves of Cuba, the Caverns of St. Tomas constitute the largest integrated system. Eight named caves interconnected with at least four actively forming stream passages penetrate the Quemados Sierra, located in the country's westernmost province. The Cuban Speleological Society's systematic survey and exploring efforts have placed the system among the longest known cave system in the world. For beauty, the cave ranks with the finest to be found anywhere.
