Description Gurnee Can
Steel container used during the C-3 Expedition by the Cave Research Foundation at Crystal Cave

From The Caves Beyond:

To solve the logistical problem posed by the Crawlway, John Spence
undertook the development of a metal canister for transporting supplies.
He and Russ Gurnee designed and built four canisters for use in the Crawl-
way. Working in Gurnee's sheet-metal shop, they placed a metal cone on the
forward end of the tapered, galvanized steel cylinder. It could be dragged
by a rope tied to a ring at the point of the cone and would not snag. A
canvas cover closed the rear end after it was loaded.
