Meeting Minutes 3/21/2012

Meeting started by Chairman Jeremy Browning at 8:02pm

 

Treasurers Report:

- After adding $7.50 for dues the total comes out to $748.94

- The check card still has not been received and will be checked out

 

Vertical Practice:

- There was no vertical practice this week

- Please contact Jeremy Browning if you are interested in having one

 

Old Business:

- Have not heard anything about the SGA grant yet and we are waiting on them

- Jeremy mentioned what should be done with the logo to the logo maker and they have revised it.

- No new ideas were thought of for the Student Reception

 

New Business:

- Andrew attended the Sports Club meeting for this month and came back with a synopsis. The synopsis is as follows:

            a) Funding is based upon number of members vs community service

            b) An end of the year report must be sent in and if not sent in there will be a 30% deduction in funds for the following year

            c) Attendance is mandatory for meetings but any representative of the grotto can be present.

- In conclusion of the synopsis, the grotto has agreed to become a part of Club Sports.

- 3 people from the grotto are definitely going on the TAG trip this weekend. They will be leaving Friday afternoon and will be back sometime around Monday. The caves that are planning to be visited are but are not limited to Neversink, Cagle’s Chasm, etc.

- The Pendleton County trip has been replaced by a Randolph County cave trip

- MIT is coming back and will be doing local tourist caving trips over spring break

- Jeremy will be working on a slide for the advertising monitors around campus

 

Upcoming Presentations:

- Dave Riggs will be giving a presentation on his trip to Lechuguilla. This will be used as a recruitment opportunity for the grotto

- Dave Riggs will also be giving a presentation on bats

- Allen Dove will be giving a presentation on Short Cave

 

Trip Reports:

- No one officially went caving but Dave Riggs discussed and showed some pictures of his repel in the cheat canyon and also showed some photos from his bat counts in the Cheat Canyon as well. He described how the bats from Beaverhole Upper have been decimated by WNS while the bats from Beaverhole Lower appear unharmed.

- March 30 – April 1: Beginner level orientation to cave rescue at EMU in Harrisonburg, VA.

- April 4 : Tentatively scheduled Lechuguilla trip report from Dave Riggs

- April 20-22: Randolph County trip

- April 27-29: Spring VAR

- June 25-29: NSS convention

- June 26: Student Reception

- August 30 – September 1: OTR
