Meeting Minutes: 2/15/2012

12 people were in attendance

Meeting called to order by Chairman Jeremy Browning at 8:02pm

Treasurers Report:

- $812.44 (same as last week)

Vertical Committee:

- No one showed up for vertical practice this week.

- There will be practice next week but on weeks following Jeremy will tentatively post when vertical practice will be. If you are interested in having a vertical practice and will be able to come out then contact Jeremy to set up a time.

Old Business:

- Andrew has completed a draft of the SGA grant. Jeremy made some minor corrections and it will be revised. It would be beneficial that other members, who have filed the SGA grant in previous years, take a look at the draft to better prepare it for revision.

- Jeremy will send Allen the email for Club Sports.

- Jeremy has edited the Newsletter once again.

- There are no new updates on the logo but there is no rush since we are having the logos done for free.

- Rancho Relaxo is a long drive so please try to pitch in with gas money. It is 200+ miles to Bens place and 60 miles to Organ Cave from there. The hot tub has been installed but there are rules that must be followed. There will be another optional cave trip on Saturday if anyone wants to go there instead of to Organ Cave. As far as food is concerned, there are restaurants nearby.

*NEXT WEEKS MEETING IS CANCELLED!! We will be finding a cave nearby Morgantown.*

New Business:

- Jeremy talked to Bob Griffith and Bob agreed to give a presentation on Mount K.

- Dave Riggs agreed to give a presentation to either the Cheat Canyon or Lechuguillua Cave.

- Allen Dove presented a detailed draft version of approximately 70% of Short Caves passages and gave a brief talk of the cave in reference to the map.

Trip Reports:

- Dave Riggs took a trip into Memorial Day Cave where he finished a dome climb which reached 197 feet. The top of the dome had some virgin passage that can be traversed to and may add the 3 extra feet that they need to make a 200 foot dome. The top of the dome is the second highest point in the cave and after a little GIS work, Dave was able to conclude there was 40 feet of overburden between an overlying sinkhole that is 100 yards away from the dome. The bottom of the sinkhole is about 9 feet from the top of the dome so there is a possibility for a new entrance to Memorial Day Cave at this point. Having an entrance at this point would save Memorial Day Cavers 2.5 hours of traveling time to get to camp.

- John Harman went into Mount Kisamore on Friday to deliver some gear and supplies to the mid-level. Then on Saturday, he went to Shoveleater cave, derigged some ropes, and brought them out of the cave. On Sunday John Harman went to another cave that was about 100 feet in total depth.
