WVUSG Meeting Minutes 1-18-2012

Meeting called to order by Chairman Jeremy Browning at 8:00pm

Treasurers Report:

-Up $40 from last week, due to dues and t-shirt sales, putting the total to $1070.30

Vertical Committee:

-Vertical practice is held every Tuesday in the Rec at the climbing wall

-Weather permitting; there will be outside practices throughout the semester

-Please check your email on vertical practice days to see if there is practice outside otherwise, it is assumed to be at the climbing wall

-Emails will TRY to be posted by 11am on vertical practice days

Old Business:

-SGA grant still needs to be submitted and the list is being put on hold due to the possibility in replacing Princeton Tec Apex lights with ZebraLights

-Motion was passed to buy a ZebraLight with grotto funds and test it extensively in cave before we commit to buying them in place of the Princeton Tec Apexs’

-NSS convention registration is up until May 1^st

-We will possibly be donating BEVERAGES to the NSS convention using grotto funds

New Business:

-Simmons-Mingo trip cancelled due to the GVKS field house having limited space that weekend

-Anyone planning to help with setting up a table at the Rec center to help recruit new members should send Jeremy their schedule asap so we can schedule some times

-Grotto t-shirts are still available at $10 apiece

Important Dates:

-January 28^th and 29^th we will be heading down to a Greenbrier County, WV cave and will stay at WVACS

-February 17^th-19^th we will be staying at Rancho Relaxo. The cave most favored is Organ Cave since the grotto has not done a lot of trips there recently

-February 22^nd- There will be a trip to a nearby cave that is still under debate

Trip Reports:

-Allen Dove went to Short Cave for a 6 hour survey trip and surveyed only 267 feet of cave but closed 5 loops with good errors.

-Jeremy Browning went on an 8 hour survey/dig trip to Shoveleater Cave. The dig section of the trip led them into surveyed passage while the survey portion of the trip moved the cave 20 feet further north.
