From: "Rachel McCormick" Date: Fri, 30 Apr 2010 05:37:25 -0000 Subject: [wvusg] Meeting Minutes for 4/28 Meeting Minutes for 28 April 2010 Meeting called to order by Chairperson Gayle Suppa at 8:04p Financial Report - The check for working the basketball game has been received and was $119.63, giving the Grotto a total of $628.04 NSO Fair - Recruitment at the fair is going relatively well, three people have signed up so far. However, for this coming Saturday, it may be better to move into the common area rather than the Vandalia Lounge, so Carly Parana will be contacting the person in charge of the fair to see about possibly moving. The next fair is 1 May, this Saturday if anyone is interested in helping Gayle Suppa out. Gayle will also be sending out an email to the new people interested in the Grotto thanking them and giving them more information. - With printing, Tiffany suggested that it would be a good idea to give Randy a heads up if we plan on printing a lot for anything. - For next year, it would be a good idea to look into having the current poster or making new posters that are laminated so that they last longer. - There will also be more fairs throughout the month of June (2-22), Monday through Friday 2:45 – 4:45p. The form doesn't allow specification of dates or table by the group, so volunteers will be needed to randomly show up during that time. Gayle Suppa will be making sure the form is submitted by the deadline of 10 May. Photo Contest - Congratulations to Tom Hay for his first place win in the Adventure Sports Category with his picture of Cass Cave. Gear - As it is the end of the year, any Grotto gear that is still out needs to be returned ASAP - Rachel McCormick still has 2 helmets and a few lights. - Gayle Suppa also has a helmet and light. - Allen Dove will be borrowing a set of survey equipment for the summer to continue surveying Short Cave. - All the broken Princeton Tech lights have been given to Kyle McMillan and will be sent off here shortly. Terra Incognito - John Harman has completed the Mexico Trip report and it's currently being revised by Dave Riggs. - Gayle Suppa has volunteered to do a trip report for the Lipp's cave trip from this weekend. - If anyone has any pictures from the Grotto trips, they would be greatly appreciated. Rachel McCormick will be sending out an email with all the trips that she has trip reports for so that anyone with pictures know what pictures are needed for which trips. Trip Reports - Lipp's Entrance of Organ Cave Dave Riggs, Gayle Suppa, Krista Tindall, and Rachel McCormick went to the Lipp's entrance of Organ Cave. A good portion of the cave was walking stream passage with beautiful polished limestone floors, and then changed to more (very) narrow passage. After climbing a small waterfall, there was a little formation room and passage that eventually looped back to the original passage. We explored several side leads, and in one lead there was a well casing. On Sunday, the group went to the New River Gorge for some rappelling near the Ram's Head. It was a beautiful, but windy day for the roughly 80ft rappel. Election Results Chair – John Tudek. He will be trying to increase caving trips and guarantee a trip a month, as well as increase recruitment and retention of members. Vice Chair – Allen Dove Secretary – George Case Treasurer – Tiffany Neumann Congratulations to all the new officers and we're all looking forward to a great year!!! - All new officers need to become NSS members and fill out the new officer forms that are downloadable. Gayle Suppa will be getting the forms from Huntington Bank to change the names on the bank account. Meeting adjourned at 9:11p
