EVERYONE COME OUT AND V OTE!!!* * IF YOU HAVE BEEN NOMINATED FOR A POSITION YOU MUST SHOW UP FOR THE ELECTION!!* Meeting Minutes for 21 April 2010 Meeting called to order by Chairperson Gayle Suppa at 8:02p Financial Report - The Grotto now has $508.41 after paying shipping for the new additions to the library and the WV Caver. New Student Orientation Fair - Jeremy Browning and Kyle McMillan will be getting together to make new give-aw ay posters and business cards (others are outdated). The fair is 2:45p-5p on 24 April and 1 May. George Case will also be helping with the fair. Rancho Relaxo, 23-25 April - Weekend at Ben's is on! The actual cave we could do is still up for debate, Ca ldwell is the suggestion right now Princeton Tech Lights - Kyle McMillan still hasn't sent out the lights yet, so if anyone has any broke n Grotto lights they need to be given to Kyle as soon as possible so that he can get that package sent out. Rachel McCormick and Gayle Suppa both have broken li ghts that need returned. Relay for Life Benefit - The Geology Club is having a Relay for Life Benefit at the Brew Pub this Thurs day. There will be several drink specials and a 50/50 ticket sale. TRA Discount - The Robertson Association which puts on the Old Timer's Reunion around Labor D ay in Beverly, WV, is offering a discount for OTR registration when you become a member. Dave Riggs has sent out an email with the information and you can also check it out on their website http://myotr.org/?view=article&id=130 Grotto Mail at the Rec - For some reason, some of the Grotto's mail went to the Student Rec Center. Thi s included a letter from the Intercollegiate Outing Club Association about their spring conference that will be held this coming weekend, 23-25 April, however w e have already missed the registration deadline. It was mostly a get-together of various groups participating in outdoor activities, and although caving wasn't explicitly mentioned, the information was still sent to us. This is just somethi ng to keep in mind for next year. The DC Grotto also sent us a copy of their new sletter with different articles, events, and trip reports. If any one is interes ted, you can look at it at the next meeting and it will eventually be moved to t he Library. It was also suggested that since we make our own newsletter that we send one back to them, as well as put out a call to possibly swap newsletters wi th other Grottos. NSS Website Billing - The NSS is refining their billing for webspace, so if a bill is received, it n eeds to be paid quickly. - Tiffany Neumann got the opportunity to meet Will White, a professor at Penn St ate and prominent karst geologist. Possible Beaver Hole trip - If more people are interested in doing another Beaver Hole trip, Kyle McMillan is planning on leading a trip. Those interested should get in contact with him and a date will be decided at a later date. Adventure's Edge Film Festival - Adventure's Edge will be having their film festival at the Warner, Thursday 22 April at 7p Photo Contest - The photo contest is still going on at Black Bear, which includes photos submi tted by Grotto members Tom Hay and Brian Masney. Voting ends tomorrow. We w ill be having elections next week, 28 April. Everyone please come out and vote. If you've been nominated, you have to be at the elections. Trip Reports Beaver Hole - Tom Lilly, Rachel McCormick, Kyle McMillan, Dave Riggs, Melissa Evans, and Mar y Hill all went to Beaver Hole Upper and spent a good couple of hours in cave do ing the loop. Bennett Cave, Tucker Co. Survey - Dave Riggs, John Harman, and several Mon Grotto members went to Bennett Cave i n Tucker Co. to clean up a survey and finish the map. The cave has been closed f or a long time, but the owner has mentioned that if a tourist trip was led into the cave, he would be interested. Meeting adjourned at 8:47p
