From: "Rachel" Date: Fri, 29 Jan 2010 18:49:06 -0000 Subject: [wvusg] Meeting Minutes for 1/27 Meeting Minutes for 27 January 2010 Meeting called to order by Chairperson Gayle Suppa at 8:01p Old Business Financial Report - The Grotto still has $744.98; no change has occurred Gear - The inventory was completed and the Grotto is currently missing one helmet and two lights. The helmet may be at Abby Hohn's and Dave Riggs has volunteered to try and track it down. The problem with the lights is that the pegs that allow the light to rotate are breaking. Kyle McMillan has volunteered to contact Princeton Tech and see about the warranty status of the lights. Grant - The grant is in pretty good shape, needing a few more details and a little bit more work. - It is due two weeks before the SGA meeting at which it is supposed to be presented. If anyone hasn't read it yet, please do so and offer any suggestions. New Business - The President of the University is still interested in going caving, just to keep that in everyone's mind. Suggestions for caves to take him to would be appreciated. Trips - Beaver Hole Upper, 6 February Dave Riggs is still planning on going to Beaver Hole Upper to celebrate the anniversary of his first cave if anyone would like to join. - Cheat View Rappel, 7 February The Cheat View rappel is being tentatively rescheduled for Sunday, 7 February at about 2pm, depending on the weather. Please keep an eye on the listserv as it may be rescheduled to Saturday, 6 Feb, around the Beaver Hole trip, or cancelled. Any questions talk to Kyle McMillan. - Flower Pot, 21 February There is still interest in doing the Flower Pot trip, a vertical cave trip lead by John Harman. - Cliff Rappels in Tucker Co., 19-21 March Kyle McMillan has suggested doing some cliff rappels in Tucker Co., along with some camping and ridge walking. This is tentatively scheduled for 19-21 March. Suggestions from last week are still possible too, including Short Cave and Rancho Relaxo. Trip Reports - Close Mountain Cave, Tucker Co. George Case and John Harman went to Close Mountain Cave in Tucker Co. this weekend to complete some map sketching and do some exploring. The cave was relatively easy to find with all the read spray paint. The entrance to another cave they were going to look at was iced over and inaccessible. - Tucker Co. Gayle Suppa, Dave Riggs, Kyle McMillan, and John Barth did some ridge walking this weekend also in Tucker Co, starting in the Experimental Forest. A bat sound collecting device was used to determine that there wasn't any bat activity in Big Spring Cave. They also looked at Black Water Canyon, and some pits, as well as relocated a hole in a streambed. - Mexico Trip Presentation John Harman, Dave Riggs, and several others went done to Los Toros, Mexico to do some caving. They spent about two weeks surveying, ridge walking, bouncing pits, and the like. It was an absolutely amazing presentation with beautiful pictures and video; I would be unable to give it justice by trying to describe it here, and am sorry for all those who were unable to make it. Meeting adjourned at 9:10p
