From: "Rachel McCormick" Date: Fri, 15 Jan 2010 20:02:42 -0000 Subject: [wvusg] Meeting Minutes for 1/13 Meeting Minutes for 13 January 2010 Meeting called to order by Chairperson Abby Hohn at 8:03pm Old Business Financial Report - The check from the CSC for working the Colorado was $513.31 and has been deposited into the Grotto account - We currently have $744.98 including petty cash Gear - All gear needs to be turned back in ASAP! - Abby Hohn will be getting the rest of the gear out of Kyle McMillan's garage and doing an inventory Terra Incognito - Thank you to Krista Tindall and Jeremy Browning for turning in their trip reports, and thanks to Gayle for the updates on hers. - If you have volunteered to do a trip report, please get those to Rachel McCormick soon. They were due before the beginning of the semester. Grant -Gayle Suppa has written a partial draft for the grant and Abby has looked at it. A draft will be completed here shortly and be posted to the listserv for comments. A final draft will be discussed at the next meeting on the 20th. Library - There hasn't been any word on new additions to the library. However, there are some interesting books in the library here if anyone is interested. New Business Trips - The ski trip at Krista Tindall's cabin has postponed to possibly in early February. - There was talk of maybe doing a loosely Grotto affiliated trip down to TAG over Spring Break - Abby Hohn suggested doing a Cave Cleanup Trip to Roadside Pit sometime in March - John Harman will be going to Tucker Co. on the 23 January to complete some surveying. This is a beginner level cave and will be a good surveying and mapping experience for those interested. Please contact him for further information. Vertical Practice - Starting the 25 January, vertical practice will now be Mondays from 5p-7p at the Rec Center climbing wall. Dave Riggs and Tom Lilly have offered to come teach. - Because this coming Monday is a holiday, vertical practice next week will be Wednesday, 20 January, from 5p-7p. Grotto Patch - Dr. Rauch hasn't been able to find his historical student grotto patch. - While looking for it, Dr. Rauch found a grotto folder from 1977 with documents pertaining to that first year. He also found the first newsletter put out by the grotto. This has been moved to the library if anyone would like to see it. Elections - Elections were held and the results are: President: Gayle Suppa Vice President: Krista Tindall Secretary: Rachel McCormick Treasurer: Tom Lilly - Congratulations to the new officers for the spring semester Trip Reports Short Cave: Allen Dove - Allen with to Short Cave in Pendleton, Co. to survey the cave. He ultimately surveyed 1,300 feet of cave that was around 82 feet deep. Mexico: John Harman - John Harman, Dave Riggs, and six other people went down to Mexico over Christmas Break to explore and survey a cave. They will be giving a presentation on this trip at the 27 January meeting. Shovel Eater Cave: John Harman - John, Cullen Hencke, and Nikki Green went to Shovel Eater Cave TAG: Brian Masney - Brian and Mary Masney went to Signal Light Pit in Tennessee.
