From: "ashohn" Date: Thu, 23 Apr 2009 22:25:00 -0000 Subject: [wvusg] Meeting Minutes Meeting Minutes for April 22, 2009: Old Business - Financial Report: $557.42 in the bank and $15.16 in petty cash Terra Incognito: The deadline for turning stuff in has passed. Abby Hohn is working on putting everything together. The newsletter won't be coming out until after finals, but it'll be electronic, so everyone on the listserv will get it. Lilly or Gayle Suppa is going to check the mailbox to see if we've received the WV Caver bill. This Saturday, the Grotto will be camping at Blue Hole, which is off of Bull Run Road in Preston Co about 40 minutes from Morgantown. It looks like about 5 people are going. Kyle Mcmillan has invited people to join him rock climbing at Coopers Rock before going out to Blue Hole. He will send out more information. Next Wednesday the Grotto will be meeting at Rio Grande for dinner instead of having the usual meeting at Brooks Hall. New Business - This Friday, the Adventure Film Fest will be hosted by Adventure's Edge at the Met. You can buy tickets at the door or at Adventure's Edge. Relay for Life is also this Friday. It will last late into the night, so anyone who's interested could even go after the film fest. All gear that belongs to the Student Grotto must be turned in to Kyle Mcmillan by next Wednesday!! Those who fail to turn in gear will be publicly shamed. Kyle Mcmillan will be doing an inventory of Grotto gear in his garage. He predicts this'll take place during finals or after the semester ends. He's offering beer to anyone who shows up. Dave Riggs has also offered to lend his pressure washer to the cause. Kylie is trying to sell a brand new frog system and long frame micro rack. The system has only been used once at the climbing wall. Kyle Mcmillan suggested the Grotto buy it. He'll get in contact with her and get back to us. Trip Reports - Two Saturdays ago, Dave Riggs went ridge-walking in the Cheat Canyon. He rappelled Limestone Falls, which was actually a crappy rappel, but it's in a beautiful area. Last Saturday, John Tudek, Dave Riggs, Brian Masney, Gayle Suppa, and Abby Hohn went down to Tucker Co. They tried to find Big Springs Cave, which none of them had been to before. They hiked around the Fernow Experimental forest for quite a while. They located the Big Springs FRO and discovered the Ferlater FRO, but failed to find the entrance Brian wanted to photograph for the bulletin. It turns out that there is a path with railings and stairs, which leads directly to the entrance... After that, they went down Otter Creek past Head Quarters (camp site) to get more entrance photos. They found a few caves, then went to eat pizza at CJs. Election results - President: Abby Hohn Vice President: Gayle Suppa Treasurer: Tom Lilly Secretary: Jataya Taylor After the meeting, Gary Shindel gave an interesting slide show presentation on caves in Texas. With that I'm happy to wrap up my last meeting minutes as Grotto Secretary. Thanks everyone for putting up with my crappy minutes all year. -Abby Hohn
