John Tudek went down to Lost Worlds Caverns with the Geology of WV class. They did the wild tour, which wasn't very wild. Kyle Mcmillan went climbing in Northern PA and saw the entrance of a mine, which is a suspected WNS site. Kyle Mcmillan, Dan Brooks, and Tom Lilly went to Army Rock for vertical practice before the meeting. Kyle taught Dan and Tom how to pass a rebelay. Nikki Green called in to give a trip report from Mexico. She's currently on vacation from her expedition in Oaxaco. They set up a few camps in the cave. The cave, J2, has an entrance 1/2 a mile from base camp. It's about 8' high and 1.5' wide. It bells out. There are 8 drops in the first 20 meters. Eventually, the team reaches a 160 meter drop, which has 17 rebelays. From there to camp 1, located -450 meters from the entrance, the passage is very wet. It took them about 6 hours with extremely heavy packs to reach this camp. To camp 2,they pass through water which is at times shin deep to chest deep. Camp 2 is near an amazing 30 meter waterfall. Nikki has been on 3 trips into the cave. She has only gotten about half way in thus far (4-5km). This week she will be returning to camp for 6 weeks and the exploration will start. Teams will spend 2 weeks underground on each trip. Nikki will likely be shuttling gear fro divers and leading bolt climbing trips. On her time off, she went to see a the Petrified Waterfall, which is huge flowstone that's formed above ground. Meeting adjourned at 8:52.
