From: "ashohn" Date: Fri, 06 Feb 2009 19:00:20 -0000 Subject: [wvusg] Meeting Minutes ***The meeting next week (Feb 11) is canceled. Go skiing or caving instead. Meeting Minutes for February 4, 2009: The meeting was called to order at 8:01 Old Business - Financial Report: Unchanged. $875.35 in the bank Kyle Mcmillan printed fliers, which are being posted around campus. The squeeze box was put on hold. Terra Incognito news: only 2 out of 4 people actually turned trip reports in from last semester and winter break. Abby Hohn is expecting those as soon as possible. The next deadline is the first week of March. Abby's would like everyone who has already been asked to write sosomething to turn it in by the 4th of March. New Business - John Tudek resigned as editor. Katherine G. is going on a beginner level trip to Bowden this Saturday. Anyone who is interested in joining the trip should contact her. White Nose Syndrome was confirmed in Hamilton Cave. Hundreds of dead bats were found near the entrance showing signs of WNS. Since we're not sure whether it is spread by cavers, the Grotto should probably avoid caving in that area for a while. Next week we will not have a meeting. We will either go to WISP to ski. If the weather is terrible we might have a trip to Maiden Run instead. Keep an eye on the list serv to see what's decided. The Grotto will be going to Bowden (possibly to the back if we can find an appropriate person to lead the trip) on Feb 28. A trip to Greenbrier County has been proposed for the weekend of March 7th. On Feb 18, we will try to recruit new members at the rec center. To do so we're going to have vertical practice in our clean cave gear. Make sure to wash your gear before showing up. Trip Reports - Nikki Green, Mark Stover, Lou Carrol, and Kurt Waldron went to Shovel Eater last Saturday. They went to the bottom of the cave to work on a dig. James Skinner went to Indian Cave in Harrison Co on Saturday. It is a shelter cave, but there are indian drawings on the walls. Dave Riggs, John Harman, and Brian Masney also went to Shovel Eater on Saturday. They spent 13 hours underground and surveyed 89.5' of passage. A glowstick exploded in Brian's hands when he tried to crack it. The liquid sprayed all over him and got in his eyes. The meeting was adjourned at 8:41
