From: "John Tudek" Date: Wed, 9 Apr 2008 20:41:37 -0400 Subject: [wvusg] Meeting Minutes for 4-9-08 Meeting minutes for 4-9-08. meeting called to order about 7:37 pm OLD BUSINESS Financial Report- no change Student Grant - we got it! And spent it on 10 helmets (Black diamond) half-domes from Adventure's Edge. YTR - Will be next weekend! - firewood - do NOT bring firewood down. But there may be downed wood to cut up - also we can get Dave Cowen - Cullen will put together a final email for the other grottoes. The letter needs to remind people about WNS and to clean your gear appropriately. - They should be referenced to the WNS site. john Tudek will send Cullen directions. - John Tudek will bring his small grill. - Food - each grotto will bring its own food - we'll chip in for a grotto meal - so bring a few bucks to go towards that. - first aid kit - Jessica will bring it for the weekend. - grotto helmets and gear - need to be brought - WATER - John will bring jugs. - John T. will be down early Friday and take money. - each grotto must provide for its own beverages. - Other people are welcome to come on our grotto trips, but we will not specifically lead grotto trips for other grottos. - YTR MUST HAVE A SIGN IN AND SIGN OUT BOOK. - we should also post the Greenbrier rescue numbers (see WV Caver) - We'll also post the 'closed cave list' for Greenbrier county and Pocahontas County. - remember, if you're not a college student or thereabouts, it's a whopping $10- instead of $5-. Vertical Rodeo - Rumor has it that this might be a good idea to try someday... Gear Locker - Kyle dumpster dove a tub for us. - MAR - Anyone want to lead a trip(s)? If interested, email John Harman. The Grotto will volunteer to lead a trip or two for MAR. - VAR / SERA - June 5-8 - John H. planning a 2-3 day TAG trip. Others are interested. - Upcoming Ed Devine HH video will be shown next week after an abbreviated meeting. Everyone is VERY excited. - BANFF Film Festival - will be coming back to Morgantown in early April. The film portion was April 3, (very nice) with the local version on the 18th. http://www.chestnutmtnproductions.com/banff/morgantownhome.htm - The Maiden Run Survey has been permanently shelved in favor of a nicer Tucker County cave to survey (such as Confluence Cave). The Tucker county survey is almost done with their guidebook on the county and they could really use some help with getting these last caves done. Its a great opportunity to learn to survey and help a long-term project. OFFICER ELECTIONS - we only have 5 meetings left this semester so we need to think about next year's leadership. Elections will be held on April 23rd. Anyone who is a WVU student, has a GPA of 2.5 and is willing to become an NSS Member is elligible to be an officer. So think of who would like to lead the grotto next year (or if you would like to be an officer). All 4 positions will have turnover this year - so we will be looking for a new Chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer! Our current chairperson would like you to consider the positive directions the grotto has gone through in the past year with respect to the increased numbers of trips, fundraising and new members! When thinking about nominations, consider who might be able to continue this legacy. New Lights - Kyle suggested that we get 10 new lights to go with the 10 new helmets. Dave suggested that we put off that purchase until we get next year's fund raising. A motion was made to buy 5 lights not exceeding $250- in total. Grotto Quartermastzar - It was suggested that next year a grotto quartermaster-gear tsar be appointed (to watch all our new stuff!) We need to further define this particular role. Brian Masney presented the Ed Devine Hellhole video! Part 2 Next Week
