From: "John Tudek" Date: Wed, 7 Nov 2007 21:03:24 -0500 Subject: [wvusg] Fwd: WVUSG Meeting Minutes 11/7/2007 Meeting was called to order at 8:03 pm by chairperson John Harman. *Old Business* Financial Report - No report. Football game fundraising (John H.) for Nov 8 Louisville - We have at least three people going. We'll be meeting at Dave Riggs' place at 3:20. Email Dave if you want directions to his house (I'm not posting them here.) This will be the last football fund raiser for this year - but John Harman will try to find out if we can work basketball games as well. Student grant (Kyle / Dave) - It's put together and John Harman will make the presentation to the SGA. John also has no intention of going to work tomorrow. Grotto Vertical Gear - has arrived and has experienced the joy of mud. Kyle modeled it for us. Grotto Gear Locker (John C. / John H.) - We need to purchase some tubs. The space is already reserved for us, so all we need to do is move in. We are also finalizing a check-out procedure. * New Business* Vertical Rodeo - Rich and John Harman want to put together a vertical workshop (rodeo) where you could try different types of climbing systems and varieties of vertical gear. Further details to follow. People who owe the grotto money for the Via Ferratta - pay up! Climbing Wall - Next Wednesday the WVUSG will have a special belay class so that we can climb above the bouldering lines. If you're vertically competent and want to learn, then contact John at jharman2@mix.wvu.edu or Kyle at mcmillan.kyle@gmail.com . And we had a whole bunch of new people show up from Adventure WV. Welcome! *Upcoming Trips: * Scott Hollow (Rich F.) Trip and possibly other Monroe Caves - slated for December 1st. This wonderful cave is only for NSS members (see, that membership is worth something!) Dave Riggs will contact Ben and arrange things. Dave will also do terrible, terrible things. John Tudek will lead a trip to a non-NSS required trip that weekend. Kyle will look at getting us into Grapevine (aka Lost World) on Sunday. Dadisman Outdoor Club Trip (Tom L.) - postponed till next semester. * Trip Reports* Elkhorn Mtn. / Via Ferratta - A whole mess of people went down to Pendleton County and did an excellent vertical cave trip to Elkhorn Mountian (a hundred plus foot entrance drop). Some of the pictures of the trip can be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/masneyb/sets/72157594373346426/ They also went to the Via Ferratta near Seneca Rocks and had a massive blast playing spider man all over the sheer faces of Nelson Rocks. Excellent!! Hourglass / Fieldhouse - John H. decided that vertical exposure is only fun with a roof over your head, so he went with a few friends to both Hourglass cave (named because thats what the entrance drop is shaped like) and an old classic - Fieldhouse! BeaverHole - Avery had a fun trip to Beaverhole (a six hour trip! It may be a record!!) with a bunch of friends. Karst Class Trip - Dr. Rauch took his Karst Class trip down to Greenbrier County and much was learned by all. Corn Maze - We had a blast at the Corn Maze on Halloween. Meeting Adjourned at 9:00 for refreshments downtown. -- Laws of Thermodynamics: 1. You cannot win. 2. You cannot break even. 3. You cannot stop playing the game. -- Laws of Thermodynamics: 1.
