From: "John Tudek" Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2007 21:21:12 -0400 Subject: [wvusg] Grotto Meeting Minutes for 10-24-07 Upcoming Trips: Elkhorn Mountain (Nov 3rd), Scott Hollow / Greenbrier trip (Dec 1-2ish) Meeting was called to order at 8:01 by chairperson John Harman. Old Business: Financial Report - We have $954.93 in the bank. (we got the check from the football game!!!) Now we're looking to spend money... on VERTICAL GEAR! That is, a full system. We'll be getting our helmets with the student grant. John Harman will be buying a Gonzo Guano Frog ($210.00) and be reimbursed by Jessica. Football Game Fundraising - And if we're buying, we need to work a few more fundraisers! We will be working the Louisville Game (Nov 8), the Connecticut Game (Nov 24) and the Pitt Game (Dec 1). Student Grant - Still in the paperwork phase. Grotto Gear Locker - no new report. Graffitti Magazine - we had an excellent write up. New Business: Nathan Kyle - Told us a little about the caving class he's teaching in the Phys Ed department. He's the new "adventure sports" instructor. The class meets in 4 sessions, then does a beginner cave trip and a follow up class. He's also looking for a little help in managing the trip (i.e. getting some other cavers to help guide the newbies through). The trip will be in early November. John Harman will put this on the MonGrotto message board. Nathan will also talk about the grotto to the club and encourage them to go see one of our vertical practices. John Harman will go to their first class and plug the grotto (that's on October 30th) Upcoming Trips: Elkhorn Mountain - Nov 3rd. A signup sheet was passed around at the meeting. Half of the group will do Elkhorn on Sat; half will go on Sunday. On the day you're not doing Elkhorn, you have the option to do the Via Ferratta. This is an advanced vertical trip. We will be staying at the cabins at the Via. It looks like it will be around $10/night for the cabins per night. (we might move to a different cabin if the Via cabins suck). There will also be the option of doing a horizontal trip (Cave Mountain or Trout Rocks) on Sunday. Scott Hollow - We can stay at Ben's house for a weekend (but we should give him a little advance notice). This trip will probably take place at the end of November / start of December. (possibly the Dec 1-2 weekend). Scott Hollow has a NSS membership requirement (Must be a NSS member for 1 year). John Tudek will also lead a trip to Rockland Indian Cave for non-NSS members. Dadisman Outdoor Club Trip - Will probably be a weeknight thing in November. Trip Reports: Bridge Day - An excellent slide show was presented by John Harman of the bridge day experience. Awesome job guys! CRF 50th - An excellent slide show was presented by John Tudek of the CRF's 50th anniversary trip. "One Room Wonder - a.k.a. 3 Turkeys - A new cave was opened and surveyed by Dave Riggs and company. Woo hoo! Trip was adjourned at 9:19pm. -- Laws of Thermodynamics: 1. You cannot win. 2. You cannot break even. 3. You cannot stop playing the game.
