Meeting Minutes for 9-19-07 Meeting brought to order by John 'Hard Man' Harman at 8:05 Upcoming Trips: Beaver Hole September 27th (Thursday night), Thorn-Sinnett (October 5-7), Fall VAR (October 12-14) Old Business: Treasurer's Report: We'll get it next week. Jessica is ill. Football Game Fundraising: This Saturday! We'll be working the game. The arrival time is 7:45 am and the dress code is white t-shirts, black pants (not jeans) and black shoes and a black belt. Please show up to help raise money for the Student Grotto. John Harman will be the contact for this. If you want to go, email him at jharman2@mix.wvu.edu Student Grant: Kyle and Dave have put together a grant proposal for money for equipment for the grotto. At the meeting we decided that the grant money would go towards helmets and the football money would go towards new vertical gear. Thorn-Sinnett / Mystic Trip: Will be happening on October 6-7. You'll need to sign the waiver by next grotto meeting if you are considering going on the trip. It's a great cave to see with a giant room. And if you're going, the Beaverhole trip on 9-27 is a good way to brush up on your bouldering skills. VAR/MAR: Will be happening on October 12-14. Lots of caving and camping hosted by the Philly Grotto for the New Business: Grotto Gear Locker: If we're buying new gear then we need to have a place to put it in. John C. is looking for a spot in the Rec Center to put it in there. Dr. Rauch has volunteered shelf space in his lab for the grotto library. Thanks! Bridge Day: There will apparently be a zip-line at Bridge Day. We'll talk about it at the next grotto meeting. Beaverhole Trip: We'll be doing a Thursday night Beaverhole trip. Beaverhole is just outside of Morgantown and will be a fun cave and great time 4-wheeling to the cave! It's also highly recommended for those thinking of going to Sinnett-Thorn. Cooper's Rock: We'll be doing a vertical practice before next week's meeting. Get in touch with John Harman jharman2@mix.wvu.edu if you're interested and have done some vertical practice at the rec center. Elkhorn Mountian: Vertical trip to Elkhorn Mountian cave on November 3rd. Great cave if you already have a vertical trip under your belt. Survey Class: Is being pushed back a week to October 3rd in lieu of the vertical practice. Dave will present his stuff then. Trip Reports: Beginner's Weekend: We had a great time. Oh wait, Kyle wanted an exhaustive trip report. We had a really great time. Seriously though, we put eighteen beginners into Sharps Cave and eighteen cavers came out. Sharps' Cave had a lot of water flowing through it - more than anyone has ever seen. So it was an event as well as an experience. John Harman took some really great pics and they are availiable as a .zip file from the following address: http://community.wvu.edu/~jph014/beginners_weekend.zip If you missed the slide show at the meeting, you can see them for yourself. There was also a vertical practice tonight. Meeting was adjourned for refreshments at 8:50 pm by the "Hard Man". -- Laws of Thermodynamics: 1. You cannot win. 2. You cannot break even. 3. You cannot stop playing the game.
