Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2007 01:59:00 -0400 From: "David A. Riggs" Subject: 2007-03-21 WVUSG Meeting Minutes Minutes from the March 21, 2007 meeting of the WVU Student Grotto. There were twelve cavers, ten cookies, and one bike at this week's meeting. Chairman Kyle McMillan called the meeting to order at 8:06pm. 1. We planned a vertical practice on Snake Hill Rd. this Friday afternoon. We planned on meeting shortly after 1pm at the Harley Shop and driving from there. The weather forecast is calling for thundershowers all day, and the Rec Center wall is closed. Any other suggestions? 2. Treasurer Jessica Morning suggested that the grotto have all members fill out a copy of the emergency contact form, and that a file remain on campus with a copy, and that a second copy go out on trips. This way, emergency information would be available no matter what. The motion passed. We will have forms available at next week's meeting for people to fill out. 3. This Spring is the WVU Student Grotto's 30th birthday, and we plan to have a celebration at Spring VAR [1] in Durbin WV the night of Saturday, April 28. All grotto alumni are encouraged to attend! More details will follow soon... [1] http://www.varegion.org/frontroyal/var.html 4. John Harman is leading a trip to Sites Cave on Wed March 28 (during Spring Break), the day after the trip to Sinnett-Thorn (S-T trip is now "closed"). The cave is vertical, and you should have your own vert gear and know how to use it. The entrance pit is reported to smell very "pungent". Contact John [2] for details. [2] "John Harman" 5. Sat. March 31 will be another Cheat Canyon work weekend. We'll be trying to coerce our way into a very promising "sucking hole" at the very bottom of the canyon, presumed to be the downstream trunk resurgence of Druid Cave. We will have plenty of people, but need 4WD vehicles to get us down the Druid Road. Contact Dave Riggs [3] if interested in fame and/or glory. [3] "Dave Riggs" 6. Kyle gave a trip report from last week's trip into Beaverhole Upper, where Kyle gave some folks a tour of the "road less traveled" and we tried (and broke) his mine-surplus cave radio. A good time was had by all. 7. We will be having a fund raiser very soon after Spring Break, no matter what. Legal and semi-legal fund raising ideas are always welcomed. Your humble Vice Chairman stopped in the Student Government Administration office to inquire about their grants, and now has the necessary paperwork to write a proper proposal - note that this will allow us to buy "stuff", but not to put cash in the bank. Have a safe and fun Spring Break - hope everyone spends some or all of it underground and comes back with exciting trip reports for our next meeting! - DR -- David A. Riggs
