From: Jessica Morning Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2006 08:43:50 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [wvusg] 10-18 Meeting Minutes Last night we had a good turn out. 1. Room 304 etiquette. Turn off projector, leave room in equal or better condition than pre-meeting (no trash, put chairs back if we move them, close windows if we opened them). We don't want to wear out our welcome in the Geology department... the projector is most important because the bulbs are serious $$$. 2. Nov 4. annual cleanup day of NSS-owned caves Trout, New Trout, and Hamilton. Contact the director of the WV Cave Conservancy, Pauline Apling papling@verizon.net 3.Bridge day is this Saturday, Oct. 21. Several WVUSG members are rappelling, and several more are coming down for the day to hang out on/under the bridge. Kyle still has some open seats. kmcmill2@mix. wvu.edu The event runs from 9-3, but arrive early because parking is a real problem. It is about a 2 1/2 drive. 4. John Tudek is planning a Mystic trip in the first week of December and a trip down to Lewisburg. Keep you eyes open for more updates. 5. Kyle mentions the start of vertical practice and rock climbing before the meeting. This will take pace either at the Rec or outdoors. This will start next week and run from 5- 7:30. Most likely will be at the Rec but watch for updates. Also Kyle is wondering if anyone is interested in mountain biking? 6. Jason's Halloween party Halloween is here again and for those of you hoping to celebrate and hang out with new and old friends locally Melissa and I are planning a Halloween party in our newly acquired property in Salem on Saturday the 28th at 7:00 pm. All are welcome and costumes are a bonus. Please Brian don't dress as you again. There is plenty of space to crash. Two empty 3bdroom apts above the first floor party space/pool hall and a large empty level yard outside near where the fire will be to choose from for crashing. For those planning on attending please respond back so we can get a head count. The more the merrier. BYOB. Jason home is located in Salem, WV which is about 55 minutes away. 4. Brain mentioned Elk Horn Mountain vertical cave trip. Nov 11-12 is a possibility, but it is not set in stone. For this trip you will need some vertical experience which you can get by coming to our vertical practices! 5. We would like to encourage people to join the National Speleological Society (NSS). This is suggested because there are a good bit of caves that will not let you in unless you are a member. www.caves.org If you join you also get a beautiful NSS news magazine with great color pictures. 6. A horizontal and vertical trip in My Cave was also mention. This will take place in the winter time. Hope I did not miss anything. Jessica Treasurer Secretary for the night
