Date: Wed, 4 Oct 2006 22:08:23 -0400 From: "David A. Riggs" Subject: 2006-10-04 WVUSG Meeting Minutes Minutes for the Oct. 04, 2006 WVU Student Grotto meeting. In spite of a sudden, severe thunderstorm, there were 11 people in attendance tonight. 1. The tentative Lewisburg caving trip for this weekend is CANCELLED. Sorry, go to the Balloon Festival [1] instead. 2. Oct. 13 - 14 grotto caving trip to Mystic Cave, near Seneca Rocks. We will camp at Seneca Shadows on Friday night and go home Saturday evening. You will get wet at one point in the cave, but it is a very beautiful cave. Beginners are welcome. 3. We heard trip reports from VAR, Beaverhole Upper, New Years Day Cave. We talked about the history of exploration in Druid Cave [2]. I plugged the Tucker County Survey. 4. Bridge Day is Oct. 21; Kyle is driving down for the day and has room to give people a ride. 5. Garth says that Bob Kilbert's Bridge Day rafting trip is still on. Price is (probably) $80 and it is (probably) beginner skill level. You must contact Bob [3] in advance if you want to go. 6. Acting-Treasurer Dave Riggs gave a financial report. The grotto needs money. Have I mentioned that we have stunning T-Shirts for sale? Kyle is getting information on applying for a student organization grant, but we may need to look into other fundraising activity soon. 7. There is a geology presentation at 4pm tomorrow (Oct. 5) room 310 White Hall discussing the use of resistivity and infrared sensing to locate mine discharge. These techniques presumably would work for locating caves as well. President Kyle McMillan adjourned the meeting at 8:30pm and some crazy people braved the storm to head to the Brew Pub (or to get ice cream).
