From: "Kyle McMillan" Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2006 19:50:14 -0000 Subject: [wvusg] Minutes 8/16/06 Ok, here are the results of last night's meeting: The Rec Center is holding a freshman orientation TOMORROW from 6:30 to around 9:30PM I've reserved us a table through student orgs in the main concourse of the Rec Center, now we need people to man it. Unfortunately, I've got to work that night here in the hall, but all my stuff is available to anyone who can pick it up. All we really need is one person there with a slideshow or somesuch and some caving gear for props. Please, please, please, if you can make it, do so. We need all the grotto folks we can get there to rouse business. I realize this is late notice, but the only reason we found out about it at all was because it was mentioned to me in passing during my RA training. Appearantly the emails didn't get through to the right people. I checked the Grotto Mailbox today and found some bank statements (Nancy, your numbers were right on, we're still doing fine by the bank.) I also found some bills from the WV caver that we may want to pay at some point. I don't have the ability to write a check, but if you do and have some free time, contact me for details. Dr. R suggested we have some sort of mixer activity to get people talking before and after the first couple of meetings. Providing (legal) drinks was mentioned. Any other suggestions? I'm working on the flyers as we speak for posting around the campus. More on that as it develops... In order to reserve a room at the Lair for meetings, we need to update our officer information. I need the VP, Treasurer and Secretary to email me their address, phone and email so I can finish filling out this form. Since I can't reserve a room until this is done, let's continue holding the meetings in 304 White Hall on Wed at 8. Beginner's Weekend will be Sept. 8,9,10. Base camp will be the Seneca Shadows campground in Seneca Rocks, WV. Roll into camp friday, cave saturday. Possible trips are focused on Trout, New Trout and Hamilton. A walk up Seneca Rocks for the new folks while experienced vertical cavers try out Flowerpot on sunday is not out of the question. To follow that up, Brian is working on a weeknight trip to Barton's the week of Sept. 18. More details to follow. VAR is Sept. 22,23, and 24 down in Giles Co. Finally, John suggested a Greenbrier Co trip to Higgenbotham's on Oct. 20,21,22. That would also put us down in southern WV at the peak of leaf season. Could be very pretty. I managed to lose my minutes from the meeting; these were done by cloudy memories of last night. If I forgot anything or something needs to be modified, post it up.
