Date: Thu, 9 Sep 2004 21:23:48 -0400 From: Brian Masney Subject: What happened at the last meeting (09/08/2004) Here is a brief summary of what happened at the last meeting: * Talked about recent trips to Barton's Cave (Sep 2nd) and the Fanchler's Pit trip during OTR. * The first beginner's weekend is this coming weekend (Sep 10th-12th). We will camp at the Stuart Group Campground outside of Elkins. The website http://www.caves.org/grotto/wvusg/calendar/begweekend/ has more information about this trip. The weather forcest (http://www.w3.weather.com/weather/local/USWV0224) shows that it is going to be really nice out this weekend in Elkins. It looks like there is going to be a pretty good turnout of people for this weekend. I'd also like to invite any of the old WVU alumni or friends of the grotto to show up this weekend. If you're interested in coming, send me an email or give me a call at 304-419-4906. If you want to caravan down or you need a ride, we will leave the rec center Friday (Sep 10th) at 6PM, so try to get there a little bit earlier. We'll meet inside at the tables by the big screen TV. If you plan to drive, make sure you fill up your vehicle with gas before we leave the rec center. * Fall VAR (http://var.karstsports.com) is the weekend of Sep 24th-26th. At the moment there are about 11-12 led cave trips planned. * I gave a brief talk about what you should bring caving. There is a Gear List link on the main WVU Student Grotto website (http://www.wvusg.org). There is a downloadable checklist available on that webpage as well. We will have our meetings every Wednesday night at the Rec Center conference room at 8PM. I hope to see everyone there. Brian
