Sandia Cave Project Details

  

 

The State of New Mexico, Department of Cultural Affairs, Historic Preservation Division has awarded the team a small grant that will focus on the Restoration of Sandia Cave. The Project Coordinator is Katherine Shaum, a UNM graduate student in the Archaeology Program. The restoration contractor is Dr. Johannes Loubser. The land manager contacts include Sandra-Arazi-Coambs (Sandia District Archaeologist & Cibola FS Project Lead)), Jeremy Kulisheck (Cibola Forest Archaeologist), Cynthia Benedict (Cibola Forest Tribal Liaison) and Jason Waltz (SW Region Forest Service Cave Specialist).    
The team is strongly supported by local caver volunteers of the Sandia Grotto, Jim C. and Val-Hildreth Werker (NSS National Conservation Division Project Consultants) of the NSS.  
Other collaborating partners include the Sandia/Tijeras Chapter of the New Mexico SiteWatch Program.
