Robin's
Rift Cave
9-23-00
by: Rick Wagner
After 15 hours of diggin in Robin's
sink on Dick's Dig, a group of cavers, Jay, Timmy, Billy, Joey, and Susan,
Tom, Elizabeth, Josh McIntyre and Kathlyn broke through into Robin's Rift
Cave, Bath County, Virginia. We'll look for the bucket and shovel left years
ago. It's raining and we're worn out.
Robin's Rift Cave
RASSFEST Weekend
Elizabeth McIntyre
Jay and his groupy group left about
9:00 a.m. Larry and Jason Hart, Elizabeth McIntyre, Brian Biggers headed to
the cave about lunch time. They met Glen Todd outside, who was a tad bit scared
of the "mail slot". The later group headed in and ran into Jay's
groupy group coming out. Joey stayed behind to lead us through the cave.
Elizabeth and Jason went exploring and came up on the 45 foot drop. They also
had a near death experience, well at least Jason did. A rock just grazed his
chest while he was standing on the edge. After that they decided to climb
back up the
wall and go back to the other groups. They met up with another group: Sean
Lattimer, Jay Taylor, and David Redford. They they proceeded through the cave.
When we were going through the breakdown areas, many of us wanted to go back
because we were getting nailed by rocks.
Jason said, "you can call me anything but rock". Once we got into
the trunk area we had a lot more fun. Ricky and Bill Biggers went into the
cave when we were getting ready to go into the "mail slot". We waited
outside the cave to help if Bill Biggers hurt his arm getting out. Of course
we had to
help. Once Bill was out we all went back to the property and had some GOOD
stew then stayed up late having fun: rolling down hills, watching the fire,
and hanging out. It was a great weekend all together.

Billy Pickett & Sara Heifetz
Sara and I headed over to Robin's
Rift Sunday morning after caving all day Saturday. We had intended on surveying
but once there realized I was the only one who had a clue so we headed on
down to show her the parts I knew.
This was my second time down and I am still amazed at how big things are in
this cave. We were in for about 2 hours then left. Fun Trip!
