Pennsylvania Cave Conservancy Meeting Minutes for September 28, 2003.

This is a summary of the minutes of the meeting.

The meeting was called to order by Vice President, Rich Rosevear, 
at the fall MAR field meet held at Peiper Cave, at 10:00 am, Sunday 
September 28, 2003.

There were other individuals present.

Secretary Report:  The minutes from the February 2003 meeting were 
accepted as published in the Breakdown.   There was no PCC meeting 
at the spring MAR field meet due to evacuation of the meet.

Treasurer Report: George Bange, reported a balance of $216.84 in the
checking account, and $3,629.55 in the savings account for a total 
of $3,846.39.

Web Page: David Fricke, the web master, reported the site still 
continues to receive inquires and an increase in visibility in the 
caving community with more listings on caving-related link web sites.  
The counter shows that the site has been averaging approximately 5 
"hits" per day.  The "Restricted Cave Access for Pennsylvania List" 
is continually being updated with the help of Keith Wheeland.

PCC Breakfast:  Alan Horn will not be available to coordinate the PCC 
Breakfast at the spring 2004 meet.  Nate Hirneisen and Joe Shock will 
coordinate the event.  

Fund Raising T-Shirts. Dean Snyder has PCC T-Shirts for sale at $8 each.

PCC Brochure:  George Bange will coordinate with Matt Neyhart 
restocking PCC brochures at Woodward and Penns Cave.

OLD BUSINESS:

PROJECT LIST: 
Baker Caverns: Franklin County, PA.- status  quo.	

Dragon Cave: Berks County, PA -Bucks County Grotto is working with 

Berks County Conservancy and the landowner.  The focus is have Berks 
County Conservancy purchase the 20 acres containing the cave with the 
possibility of PCC managing the cave access.

J-4: Centre County, PA-status quo.  Gary Dunmire reported the homeowner 
at the end of the lane by the quarry is writing down license plate 
numbers of cars parked at the end of the land.

Merkle Cave:  Berks County, PA.- no changes.

Cleversburg Cave:  Franklin County, PA.- status quo with the township.

Sharer Cave:  Centre County, PA.- The cave is gated with limited 
access.  The cave should be removed from the project list.

Christmas Cards:  Anyone wishing to add a cave landowner to the 
Christmas card list should contact Karen Bange with the name and 
address of the landowner.  

Mail:  There was no new mail.  

NEW BUSINESS:

Northampton County:  Several members of Greater Allentown Grotto (GAG) 
gated a cave in the county and are now working with the landowner who 
desires to sell the land (227 acres) containing the cave.  The Natural 
Lands Trust in Virginia is a possible avenue for purchasing the cave 
although the Natural Lands Trust wants an appropriate organization to 
manage the cave entrance.  Ed Kehs, Paul and Leslie Lubaczewski will 
work on a management plan and report back to the PCC at the February 
meeting.

Conservancy Forum:  The Northeast Cave Conservancy and West Virginia 
Cave Conservancy are hosting a conservancy forum in Lewisburg, West 
Virginia April 2004.  The forum will discuss standardized criteria, 
fundraising, management plans, stewardship with a focus on federal land 
management.  At the February meeting PCC will have detailed information 
on the forum and discuss sending a representative to the meeting.

Next meeting: The next meeting of the PCC will be on Saturday 
February 28, 2004 after the annual MAR Business Meeting
